Offshore and onshore storage

Seeking to offer carbon dioxide storage deep below land and sea.

Bayou Bend’s offshore storage site has approximately 40,000 acres for CO₂ storage. With an additional approximate 100,000 acres onshore for CO2 storage in Chambers and Jefferson Counties, Bayou Bend is aiming to be one of the largest carbon storage projects in the U.S.

Project Timeline

July 2024

Bayou Bend’s Class VI application to the EPA for geologic sequestration in formations beneath Texas state waters is considered administratively complete.

March 2024

TotalEnergies joins Bayou Bend.

Feb. 2024

Drilling operations commenced on the onshore stratigraphic well.

Jan. 2024

Drilling operations commenced on the offshore stratigraphic well.

Aug. 2023

Equinor joins Bayou Bend.

March 2023

Bayou Bend CCS LLC expands onshore; Chevron named operator. Nearly 100,000 acres were acquired onshore in Chambers and Jefferson Counties, Texas. The increased acreage positions Bayou Bend to be one of the largest carbon storage projects in the United States.

May 2022

Chevron joins Bayou Bend.

March 2022

Lease signed with Texas General Land Office (GLO). Bayou Bend executed lease documentation with the GLO, establishing one of the first offshore CO₂ storage sites in the U.S.
